When I think about what makes the town I grew up in special, there is one place that sits heads and shoulders above the rest. A little pizza shop that had humble beginnings in the kitchen of a small house in Lisbon, Ohio.
When I was growing up in 80s, if you wanted to get pizza from this small establishment, named Mary’s Pizza after the lady who ran it, you had to call before noon to get a pizza before 8pm.
Mary had something special happening with her pizza and everyone in town wanted a slice. Just hearing the name Mary’s Pizza made you hungry for the sweet red sauce, Italian sausage, pepperoni and generous Provolone cheese that came together to make her pizza one of a kind.
As the years went by, other pizza shops popped up and attempted to compete, but it was not long before they closed their doors, unable to break the spell that Mary and her amazing pizza had over the community.
Eventually the popularity of the pizza resulted in the family building a shop next to the house that had been home to the business for years.
As the space they had to cook in expanded, the quality of their product stayed as great as always.
With more space, they added some additional items to the menu, giving customers more options to choose from, and making them even busier than before.
Menu items expanded to include more pizza options, soups, salads, sandwiches and wings.
If you ever find yourself passing through the Lisbon area and want to experience a Lisbon staple, give them a call and place your order. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
